Designer: Diane Wick

Year Created: 1986

Built in 1921, Ayres Hall dominates “the Hill,” the oldest section of the 417-acre campus of the University of Tennessee. Named for Brown Ayres, University President from 1904-1919, Ayres Hall is a prime example of Collegiate Gothic Revival architecture using tapestry brick facing and white Bedford stone. The structure features a central bell tower with four clocks flanked by three-story wings and topped by an iconic checkerboard pattern.
