Guild Education

One of the founding principles and purposes of the Guild is to provide education to members that inspires a love for skilled embroidery. The Knoxville Chapter is proud to offer a variety of educational opportunities each year. These may be in-person or virtual, in a series of sessions or an extended workshop, individual or group.

Group Correspondence Courses (GCCs)

GCCs are courses provided through the EGA but delivered locally within our chapter.

Participants work together or individually to learn new techniques and are guided by their group coordinator and text materials provided by the course designer.

Each participant pays for their own text and provides their own supplies. The group coordinator may coordinate group purchase of select supplies.

GCC Lightning Rounds are offered quarterly for any EGA member to register without a group (i.e., not through their chapter).

GCC Encores are courses originally taught at seminars that have been rewritten to be group correspondence courses.

National Teacher Classes

Each year, the Chapter votes on one course

taught by a national embroidery expert.

Courses are generally held over a one to two day time period, and participants learn techniques needed to complete the project. Courses require advanced registration and for participants to purchase a kit. Basic stitching supplies are also needed.

Retreats

Members of our Chapter have the opportunity to participate in multiple retreats throughout the year.

Generally the Chapter holds two multi-day retreats each year, and our region (Tennessee Valley Region) holds one annual retreat. Our Chapter is also excited to test out local day retreats in the coming months.

Retreats typically offer a mixture of classes or educational opportunities and community stitching time.
